Man admits trying to have way with goat

A KIWI man has admitted trying to have sex with a goat - but didn't think he'd get busted because "animals couldn't talk".

The North Canterbury 68-year-old, who managed to get his name repressed, told Rangiora District Court he took the goat to the back of his tiny farm and tried to have his way with it.

The court heard it didn't go well - so he did up his trousers, patted the goat and walked off.

"He was contrite, but said he was unable to stop the behaviour," a police spokeswoman said.

The man pleaded guilty to attempting to commit bestiality with a goat. He was convicted and will be sentenced on March 12.

Game show sex cheat the biggest loser

A CONTESTANT has confessed her adultery to win $200,000 on a controversial game show then lost the lot - and her husband.

In the latest episode of The Moment of Truth, Lauren Cleri - who was hooked up to a lie detector - said she was cheating on her husband and wished she was married to an ex-lover.

The 26-year-old said she made the confessions to become rich and famous, only to walk away with nothing but an angry husband – 24-year-old New York Police Department officer Frank Cleri.

“We’re kind of up in the air right now – I want to (get back together) but I don’t think he does,” Ms Cleri told the New York Post.

Her husband told the newspaper that he had known about her cheating ways, but was not prepared for her to tell millions of viewers about it for money.

“It’s not very easy to overcome,” Mr Cleri said. “We’ve had our issues … unfortunately now they’re not just our problems. Everybody knows about it.”

Mr Cleri was sitting in the audience while the US game show was being filmed.

During the episode, Ms Cleri netted more than $200,000 for her saucy confessions. Her ex-boyfriend even made an appearance on the show.

But when she said she thought she was “a good person”, the lie detector found evidence of dishonesty and she lost all the prize money.

According to the Post, Ms Cleri has not received any job offers or any money as a result of her appearance.

Channel 9 has bought the rights to the show, but has not revealed when it will premier in Australia.

Sex Photos Stir Tempest in Hong Kong

From ABC News
By MARGARET CONLEY
Feb. 25, 2008

Say Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Paris Hilton took it all off for Justin Timberlake and his camera, who promised the tabloid queens that no eyes but his own baby blues would ever see evidence of their tryst. Say J.T. kept some of those photos on his laptop. Say that laptop fell into the wrong hands.

You might have a sex scandal on the level of what's rocking Hong Kong right now.

Hundreds of explicit photos of singer-actor Edison Chen and a bevy of female starlets — including Canto megastar pop singer Gillian Chung and actresses Cecilia Cheung and Bobo Chan — catapulted their way through the Internet after police say the files were stolen from Chen's pink Apple Macbook when he took it in for repairs.

The whole debacle has been dubbed "Sexy Photos Gate." It has touched off a media frenzy across the globe, dominating Asian front-page headlines for weeks.

Originally believed to have discovered 1,300 sex images, the Hong Kong Commercial Crime Bureau has found even more photos, as well as video, according to local reports published last weekend. Many of the photos were screen grabs of videos.

Last week, Chen, 27, issued a public apology and said he would bow out of the Hong Kong entertainment industry indefinitely.

"I would like to apologize to all the ladies and to all their families for any harm or hurt that they have been feeling. I'm sorry," the Canadian-born heartthrob said at a mobbed news conference Thursday, followed by apologies to his mother, father and the people of Hong Kong.

Chen Departs Hong Kong

It is a case with seemingly as many twists and turns as the plot of "Infernal Affairs," the Hong Kong cinema classic about the underground world of police and triads — in which Chen played a role — and on which Martin Scorsese later based his Oscar-winning film, "The Departed."

When the scandal first broke, Chen left Hong Kong. Some speculated that he departed out of fear for his own safety. Tabloids were alleging a contract was out on him. After all, Vincy Yeung, one of the ladies photographed with Chen, is the niece of a tycoon that many believe has ties to the mob.

Unlike in the United States, where the likes of Paris Hilton, Pamela Anderson and Kim Kardashian have seen their careers take off after sex scandals, such controversies have tended to destroy careers in the more conservative Asia region.

In Vietnam, 19-year-old TV celeb Hoang Thuy Linh's show was canceled after a 16-minute sex video featuring her and her former boyfriend hit the net in October.

Last month, Malaysia's married health minister resigned after an hourlong sex video of him and another female companion circulated anonymously.

In this most recent case, the effects on the high-profile starlet's career remain to be seen. Chung, half of the bubblegum pop Twins singing duo, has apologized publicly saying, "I was naive and very silly but now I have grown up."

While many fans vow to stay loyal to Chung, an online survey showed more than 2,400 votes supporting the statement: "We don't need artists like this [Gillian Chung]. Please do not poison our young generations."

In Hong Kong, there aren't many privacy laws to protect celebrities or the general public.

"Hong Kong has been struggling with issues of privacy for seven to nine years now," said Doreen Weisenhaus, director of the Media Law Project at the University of Hong Kong's journalism school and author of "Hong Kong Media Law."

'Private Photos'

Chen made it clear in his public statement that not only were the photos private, but that most of the photos being circulated were taken by him, implying intellectual property rights and copyright infringement.

"These photos were very private and have not been shown to people and were never intended to be shown to anyone," Chen said. "These photos were stolen from me illegally and distributed without my consent."

Said John Marray, Hong Kong's barrister at law, "Privacy is always going to be a tricky problem and especially now with the Internet. The danger is that stricter privacy rules will be difficult to enforce and probably be out of step with public opinion."

On the other hand, it remains to be seen whether Chen will face civil, private or negligence action from the women and, as a result, the possibility of criminal penalties.

"In my opinion Chen is not legally liable for the release of the images," Marray said. "At the end of the day the women should be responsible for their own actions."

Seven men and two women have been arrested in this case. Two charges have been made for "publishing obscene articles." One of the charges was withdrawn after the Obscene Articles Tribunal deemed the photos in question to be indecent, but not obscene — contributing to the ongoing debate about not having clearer definitions for the two terms in Hong Kong.

Another charge has been made for "access to a computer with dishonest/criminal intent." Both outstanding cases have been adjourned until next month.

"Internet sex crimes are escalating, particularly throughout Asia," Weisenhaus, of the University of Hong Kong, said. In many countries in the region, Internet content is already being closely monitored and sometimes blocked.

In Korea, fines for those who post illicit material of sexual content is at least $1,000 or one year in prison. In Vietnam it is six months to 15 years in prison. The government in mainland China blocks content through what's known as the "Great Firewall."

Criminality Is Minimal, Lawyer Says

In Hong Kong, publishing an obscene article can result in a fine of $128,000 and imprisonment for three years. As part of the fallout from this case, police are cracking down on pornography and criminal activities relating to the manufacturing and sale of illegal discs from the island and in neighboring mainland China. The crackdown has caused a backlash by Internet users who see the action as an infringement on their freedom.

Chen is assisting the police investigation, urging people to stop the circulation of photos and his lawyers to protect the innocent in this case.

"This matter has deteriorated to the extent that society as a whole has been affected by this, and in this regard, I am deeply saddened," Chen said in his public statement.

As for Chen's popularity polls, according to local language Web site SINA.com, 30 percent thought he was "sincere and had guts," 30 percent agree he was "pretending to be miserable to gain sympathy," 21 percent said they would forgive and continue to support him, 9 percent thought he was quitting because he planned to establish himself in Hollywood and 6 percent thought he deserved to be blamed and should not be forgiven.

Sexy Photos Gate continues to feed the headlines.

"This is a celebrity-led investigation pushed along by the media. The criminality involved apart from the actual theft and resulting distribution is minimal if any," Marray said. "If only the energy had been spent on cracking down on those involved in child pornography and those that abuse innocent women."

Dirty downloads: diva axed from Olympic ceremony

From theAge
February 26, 2008 - 3:00PM

A female Hong Kong pop star at the centre of a sex photos scandal has been banned from singing at the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, a news report said today.

Singer Gillian Chung was one of a number of starlets pictured romping naked with singer-actor Edison Chen in photos downloaded from his laptop when he took it in for repairs and widely circulated on the internet.

The popular 27-year-old singer had been due to perform at the Olympics opening ceremony in August but has now been dumped because of the scandal, the South China Morning Post reported.

The ceremony's artistic director Zhang Yimou decided to take Chung off the bill after the scandal broke and had replaced her and another Hong Kong star not involved in the photos incident with Chinese pop act A-One, the newspaper said.

Millions of people in China and Hong Kong have downloaded the pictures of Edison Chen and his starlet lovers in the weeks since the pictures from his laptop were uploaded onto the internet.

Chen, 27, flew back to Hong Kong last week to issue a public apology to the women involved in the scandal and to announce he was abandoning his show business career after completing existing commitments.

More than 2000 people complained when Chung appeared on a charity TV show at the height of the scandal a fortnight ago and she was forced to scrap a public appearance last Saturday when protesters threatened to disrupt her performance.

A 23-year-old computer technician has been charged with using a computer for dishonest intent and has been released on police bail after a series of brief court appearances and a stretch in custody.

The scandal over the pictures has tainted the saccharine-sweet image of Hong Kong's so-called Canto-pop industry whose cheesy romantic melodies sung in Cantonese sell by their millions in Hong Kong, mainland China and Taiwan.

'Edison's Conquests' Sex Photos Scandal - 4 Weeks In

Article From Batgwa.com

23 February 2008
Alison Cheung

It is one of the biggest stories to hit Hong Kong showbiz ever. The celebrities sex photos scandal, now four weeks in, continues to dominate TV, newstands and websites. Here is a batgwa.com briefing on events so far...

What is the fuss about?Sex photos, of Edison Chen (陳冠希) and women purported to be female celebrities, started surfacing on the internet on 27 January. More photos leaked onto the web every few days for three weeks. The last leak was on 24 February.

The biggest female stars implicated were Gillian Chung (鍾欣桐) and Cecilia Cheung (張栢芝).

Other less well known female celebrities were implicated too, including Bobo Chan (陳文媛), Rachel Ngan (顏穎思), Mandy Chen (陳育嬬), Candice Chan (陳思慧) and Edison's current girlfriend Vincy Yeung (楊永晴).

Some of the photos are of women in kinky poses, wearing underwear or completely nude with genitals on show.

Some images are of Edison giving a woman, purported to be Gillian, oral sex, and vice versa, and appear to be screengrabs from a video. There are also photos of other women, purported to be Cecilia, Bobo and other stars, giving Edison blowjobs.

All the stars had previously been romantically linked to Edison, who was widely portrayed by the press as a playboy and hellraiser.

Are the photos real or fake?
When the photos first started surfacing, mainstream TV, radio, newspapers, magazines and websites were very careful to use words like "purportedly" and "allegedly" when describing who appears in the photos.

Representatives of Gillian and Cecilia immediately reported the matter to police. Gillian's record company, Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG), issued a statement saying the images were digitally faked. Sources close to Cecilia also said publicly that the photos were fakes.

However, in the last two weeks, it was confirmed that the photos are real.

Gillian, the only implicated female star to speak in public since the photos started leaking, said in a statement to the press on 11 February that she had been "naive and foolish" and that she was "sorry for the incident". Though not an explicit admission that she is in some of the photos, it was very close. After Gillian's statement, an executive for EEG told the press that neither Gillian nor any other artist or employee would ever talk about this topic again. Asked by reporters why the company had previously cried "fake", the executive refused to comment.

Edison admitted in a press conference on Thursday that he had taken the photos.

It confirmed what most of the media had suspected, but had not said outright in fear of libel suits. When scandal started to emerge, while the ladies doth protested too much, Edison, the only male celebrity implicated, declined to go to the police and refused to comment on the authenticity of the photos. It did not take Sherlock Holmes to figure out who was telling porkies.

What has been the showbiz fallout?Gillian avoided the press for a couple of weeks before her statement on 11 February. During her absence, some newspapers rumoured that she wanted to commit suicide, although this was denied by EEG.

A Hong Kong newspaper reported that negotiations for Gillian's pop duo, Twins, to endorse a toothpaste company in mainland China for HK$4 million fell through. Twins' upcoming concert has been put on hold.

Gillian has been asked questions about the scandal wherever she goes. The pressure seems to have become too much, and she has ducked out of several commitments. There are rumours that Twins may split, but this is denied by EEG.

Edison flew to North America straight after the photos began appearing in cyberspace. Newspapers reported that the star had fled the city in shame. However, those close to Edison said that Vancouver-born star did not run away and had, long before the scandal started, planned to return to Canada to visit family for Chinese New Year and then to go to America to visit girlfriend Vincy.

Edison finally returned to Hong Kong on Thursday. He announced that he would fulfil outstanding commitments before suspending his Hong Kong showbiz career. Edison has already been axed from the movie Jump and dropped by sponsors including Manhattan Titanium, a credit card company, and EPS, Hong Kong's local version of Visa or MasterCard.

Cecilia has still not appeared in public since the photos leaked. She has, however, managed to do some work behind closed doors away from press, such as a photoshoot for a cosmetics company.

While Cecilia's husband Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒) has publicly said he believes the photos are fake, newspapers reported marital trouble behind closed doors, especially because some of the photos of the woman purported to be Cecilia appear to have been taken just before the couple's wedding. The house the couple shared was vacated just after the scandal broke and the couple have not been seen in public since. Newspapers have speculated whether or not the house move was coincidental, and whether they moved together or whether they moved separate ways.

Bobo's planned wedding to wealthy boyfriend Philip Jin (金紫耀) was cancelled at the behest of his mother, newspapers reported.

Vincy said that she stands by her man. Vincy is also the niece of EEG's boss. Edison used to be signed to EEG. Oh and Nicholas is with EEG. Hong Kong showbiz is a small world.

What has been the political fallout?None of the celebrities purported to appear in the sex photos have yet been accused by the police of any wrongdoing.

Edison has been helping the police with their investigation. The police confirmed that the photos were stolen from a computer that had been sent for repair. Although the police have refused to say if the computer in question belongs to Edison, newspapers have widely reported that it's a customized pink Apple notebook computer belonging to Edison that he had nicknamed "Cotton Candy Mac". Some of Edison's computer equipment was taken away by the police on Thursday.

The police have been trying to establish who stole and leaked the photos, while trying to stop people publicly distributing photos that have already leaked. They raided a computer shop where they suspect the photos were stolen. And they are warning the public that posting the photos on a website or blog constitutes public distribution and a violation of obscenity laws, but say that emailing the photos among friends is not breaking the law.

So far the police have arrested nine people. Three people have been charged with breaking obscenity laws. Everyone has been freed or bailed. Some of the charges have been dropped since the Obscene Articles Tribunal reclassified the photos from "obscene" to "indecent".

A protest march took place in Hong Kong to demonstrate against the police action. The police have been widely criticized, both in mainstream media and by netizens, for what is perceived as the special treatment because this case involves celebrities, the invasion of privacy of internet users and the hunt for a scapegoat that has seen several arrests but a constant leak of photos.

During the first two weeks, when everyone was asking whether or not the photos were real, the police refused to answer. The police instead said they were not investigating whether or not the photos were real. They said that, whether the photos were real or fake, the people who stole, leaked and spread the photos were breaking the law. "The police are treating this case with kid gloves," a showbiz industry source familiar with the investigation told batgwa.com, "because they are afraid to upset the powerful entertainment companies. If the photos were fake, they would have no problem saying it. And if the photos were real – and the case did not involve celebrity – police would nonchalantly say so right off the bat."

A lot of police manpower has been used to protect Edison. He has had back doors made available for him so he can dodge the press. Hundreds of police officers have been used to shield the star from the media and to protect him from anyone who wishes him physical harm. Threats to Edison's life have been made by some netizens since the scandal started. There is hearsay in newspapers and online that triads are after Edison, because some of the female celebrities affected are managed or related to people rumoured to have gang connections. Senior police officials have denied that their use of resources is disproportionate.

The scandal has opened up a Pandora's Box of issues, from privacy rights to police cronyism.

Some netizens are pointing out the inconsistency in the police distinction between public distribution and personal use, asking which would be worse, sending the photos to a mailing list with thousand of emails or posting the photos on a blog that has a few dozen readers.

The police have drafted in dozens of officers, including computer forensics and witness protection, to work on the case. Some netizens are pointing out that there are photos of rape and child abuse floating around on the web that should be investigated, not sex photos involving consenting adults however rich and famous.

What next?
It is unclear what the police are investigating anymore, now that the photos are "indecent" and not "obscene". Edison is being questioned as a witness, not as a suspect.

Newspapers are speculating that Edison could get into trouble if one of the female stars comes out to say that the photos were taken against her will. But this is unlikely, a source close to one of the women told batgwa.com.

There are also newspaper rumours that Edison could face lawsuits from the female stars for reputation damage and loss of future earnings. This, too, is unlikely, because none of the women involved are likely to want to admit explicitly that she is in the photos or add more sensation to events, our source told us.

It is likely that the person – or people – who leaked the photos is still at large. Will he or she leak more photos? Or maybe even leak a sex tape?

Cecilia is the only major celebrity yet to come out to face the fallout. Every newsdesk in Hong Kong is poised in anticipation.

Edison will likely bounce back into showbiz.

He only said that he is suspending his Hong Kong entertainment career, which leaves the door open for him to immediately start trying to crack Taiwan, Japan or the US. Ironically, the star who previously had little success outside of Hong Kong, despite wangling supporting roles in Hollywood films like The Grudge 2 and The Dark Knight to try to up his profile, has achieved international exposure because of the sex photos. The scandal has been covered by the three big newswires, AP, Reuters and AFP. The New York Times and the Washington Post in the US and the Guardian and the Independent in the UK are among many western newspapers covering the story. CNN has carried the story.

And Edison only said that he is quitting Hong Kong showbiz "indefinitely", so he could be back in the city's fickle entertainment industry before you know it.

Wine Healthier Than Water ?

To those who enjoy a glass of wine... and those who don't.

As Ben Franklin said:
In wine there is wisdom,
in beer there is freedom,
in water there is bacteria.

In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated
that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E. coli) - bacteria found in faeces. In other words, we are consuming 1 kilo of poop.

However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting.

Remember:
Water = Poop,
Wine = Health.

Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid,
than to drink water and be full of shit.

Combat pilots may get Viagra boost

From news.com.au correspondents in Jerusalem

February 07, 2008 09:40pm
Article from: Agence France-Presse

IT might harm their reputation, but Israel's air force is considering giving its combat pilots Viagra to improve their performance in the air.

A recent study conducted by Israeli doctors among mountain climbers in Africa found a link between erectile dysfunction drugs and improved performance in high altitudes, the mass-selling Yediot Aharonot reported.

The active ingredient in the drugs was found to make climbers perform better in an environment with less oxygen, which causes fatigue and dizziness.

This has led army doctors to consider giving jet fighter pilots - who can fly at altitudes of up to 50,000 feet - the same drug.

"The Viagra family of drugs is considered effective in these conditions because when there is a long shortage in oxygen it leads to high blood pressure in the lungs, and the drugs help fight that," the report quoted military medical sources as saying.
