'I was sexually harrassed and mentally abused'
In this excerpt of an interview by Indonesian news site, detik.com, Manohara Odelia Pinot, an Indonesian model who was reportedly abused by her Malaysian royal husband, said that she was forced to smile at events or had to face "dire consequences".
After everything that has happened, will you ever go to Malaysia again?
I have no plans to visit Malaysia again, I don't trust it anymore. I am scared to even go to Singapore.
How did you get back to Indonesia?
The Kelantan royal family went to Singapore as Fakhry's father had suffered a heart attack and needed treatment. While staying at the hotel, I secretly called the Singapore police requesting help. I was brought to a room where I was joined by my mother. I was relieved to see representatives from the embassy. I was then brought to the airport.
Why didn't you try to escape in Kelantan?
It was impossible as security was tight. I had to find other ways of escaping.
How were you tortured?
It's true that I was sexually harassed and mentally abused. I was injected with drugs that made me vomit blood and within four days, my body weight went up by 10kg.
Did you ever ask Fakhry why he was doing this to you?
His answer was "Because you are my property".
What are your plans now? Do you intend to return to the modelling world?
To the modelling world, why not? I also want to be a human rights activist. We have to ensure that our people in foreign lands are protected. There are many other people out there who have received the same treatment as me.
Will you be getting a divorce from Fakhry?
Yes, of course. I've wanted a divorce for quite a while now.
But you always looked at ease in photographs, can you explain that?
All my smiles were forced, I would have to face dire consequences if I did not follow their instructions. The abuse would have been harsher. All the jewellery that I wore belonged to the royal family. After each event ends, I had to give the jewellery up to the bodyguards.
